Elijah Adeogun, also known as Killer, who was detained in May by agents of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) on suspicion of murder, has been ordered to be kept in custody by Magistrate O. I. Oke of the Ogun State Magistrates' Court in Ota.
The court directed that Killer be held to the penitentiary facility until September 14, 2022 while ruling on an application for a 60-day remand warrant made by the prosecution attorney, Tosin Jackson.
Elijah was detained by DSS agents for his suspected involvement in the murders of Monday Eredua and Moruf Babalola in Ogun State in 2021 at two separate places.
Jackson stated in his application that the purpose of the 60-day remand warrant was to give the prosecution time to present the required paperwork to a court with greater authority in order to properly arraign the defendant.
Bolarinwa Odewale, the accused's attorney, disagreed with the application on the grounds that it would be an abuse of the legal system.
Odewale maintained that Killer had received bail for the identical offence from a higher court in May. Additionally, the attorney argued that Killer had been in police custody and urged the judge to release him on bail. However, the defence team was unable to produce the requisite paperwork that was supposedly used to perfect the accused's bail.
Jackson, however, denied that Elijah was earlier arraigned before any court before yesterday’s proceeding and, also, added that a Director, Public Prosecution, advice had been released. The lawyer also stated that the DPP advice, which was released a few days earlier, stated that Elijah had a case to answer on murder, attempted murder and forcible entry.
