Real Madrid defeat Eintracht Frankfurt to secure fifth Super Cup title
Real Madrid won the 2022 UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday by defeating Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0.

Madrid has now tied Barcelona and AC Milan for the most UEFA Super Cup victories with five.
David Alaba and Karim Benzema scored in the match on Wednesday in Helsinki, Finland, to give Real Madrid their first Super Cup victory since 2017.

The contest marked the introduction of the Semi-Automated Offside Technology in European club championships (SAOT).

Daichi Kamada was given the first significant opportunity for Frankfurt on minute 14, but Thibaut Courtois stopped his low left foot shot.

After Federico Valverde played a beautiful low cross in from the right flank, Benzema laid it off to Vinicius, but Tuta cleared the ball off the line, Madrid might have taken the lead on minute 17.

Alaba's goal after going unnoticed gave Madrid the advantage after 37 minutes.

Vinicius nearly made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half after Ferland Mendy crossed the ball, but Kevin Trapp saved the Brazilian's shot after it took a deflection.

On his weaker foot, Casemiro unleashed a strong shot from distance in the 61st minute that hit the crossbar.

In the 65th minute, Benzema's header of Vinicius' cross gave Madrid a two-goal advantage.

With two minutes left Frankfurt almost reduced the deficit but a low strike towards goal was blocked by a Madrid player.
