Werner joined Chelsea in 2020 and contributed significantly to their Champions League victory the previous season.
But he has had ups and downs during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, and he has never really gotten used to life in London. He has battled injuries as well as a lacklustre performance, which has cost the squad several golden opportunities.
Werner is anticipated to regain his form with a return to Leipzig, where he scored more than 90 goals. With the team competing in the Champions League, Werner's return makes sense.
Reports also stated that Werner had agreed personal terms with Leipzig one month ago.
“Leipzig are set to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea, here we go! Been told it will be a permanent deal and NOT loan. Werner will leave Chelsea,” Fabrizio Romano, popular Italian transfer expert reported.
Werner’s exit leaves Chelsea further short of players in the attacking department with Romelu Lukaku also on loan at Inter Milan.
The Blues are expected to sign an attacker in the coming days.
