A lawsuit filed against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enforce the party's zoning and rotatory policy in advance of the 2023 presidential election has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.
The lawsuit was dismissed by the court on Friday due to a lack of jurisdiction, according to a unanimous decision handed by Justice Adamu Jauro.
Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed a lawsuit against his party, asking for a court order compelling it to adhere to the party's zoning and rotatory policy.
The presidential contender specifically asked the court to issue an order compelling PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the nation's South East geopolitical zone.
However, Justice Jauro held that the suit was not justiciable on the ground that the nomination of candidates for election is an internal affairs of political parties.
