Since November 2021, the Bauchi State Police Command has detained 1,460 people in connection with a variety of crimes committed both inside and outside the state.
This information was revealed yesterday at the Command Guest Inn in Bauchi at the start of the Police Public Complaints Committee (PPCC) awareness campaigns for the North-east subregion. Umar Mamman Sanda, the commissioner of police, resumed his duties on November 29, 2021.
According to Sanda, the Command has documented 722 cases since he took over as the 43rd Commissioner of Police and has freed 55 kidnapped victims from their captors.
In the time period under consideration, the kidnappers turned over five AK-47 rifles, 145 live rounds, 20 locally built revolvers, 10 Danish guns, 20 cartridges, and 45 machetes, according to Sanda.
One AK-47 rifle, two assault rifles, eight live rounds of ammunition, one pistol revolver with five rounds of ammo, and one locally produced pistol revolver are among the additional items found.
The Command also seized 14 motorcycles, five laptops, ten Keke NAPEP, 81 blocks of marijuana, 101 different handsets, nine fake revolvers, one single barrel, one double barrel, and 13 dane guns.
He revealed that throughout the time period under consideration, the command under his supervision had recovered N7.2 million from suspects.
“The aforementioned successes were made possible through actionable intelligence from members of the public, who as partners in progress share our desires and aspirations to maintain a safe and secure environment for all law-abiding citizens in the state and Nigeria in general,” he said.
The CP thanked the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, and his management team for bringing up the Police Public Complaints Committee sensitisation initiative, saying it will bring members of the public closer to the police for effective service delivery.
