EU proposes five billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine
In the latest instalment of the nine billion euro bailout package pledged by EU leaders in May, the European Commission on Wednesday offered five billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine.

“The situation in Ukraine requires our full support,” the commission’s president, Ursula von der Leyen, said in a tweet announcing the emergency loans to Kyiv.

According to a European official, the G7 group of countries offered to provide $39 billion in aid to help Ukraine's devastated public coffers.

The EU's nine billion euros ($9 billion), which was originally promised by European leaders in May, was delayed because several member states disputed over whether a country at war was in a position to agree to long-term financing.

Early in August, Brussels released the first billion euros of the package. On Wednesday, the commission stated that the remaining three billion euros "will be provided as soon as practicable."
