LG Polls: Labour Party to refund nomination fees to aspirants in Cross River
All candidates for local government chairmanship and councilorship in Cross River State have been invited by the leadership of the Labour Party to come collect their nomination fees.

This comes after the local government council election that was scheduled to take place next year was called off on Tuesday.

Dr. Mike Ushie, the chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), had previously said that the election had been postponed to May 2023 due to a lack of funding.

The Labour Party Chairman, Ambassador Ogar Osim, said in a speech on Friday in Calabar that the party did not need to secure such funds because their current owners may have more pressing demands for them.

“Unlike in other parties where the issue of refund of the money has sparked big problems, we are a people-friendly party and do understand the plights and wants of the people.

“We have invited all the councillor and chairmanship candidates in our party to come forward and collect their money. We cannot tie down people’s money. They may have more urgent needs for the money before the envisaged time. But no one is sure if in May next year it would hold.”
