Ehiarimwiam Osaromo Emmanuel, 53, a physically challenged man, was detained for drug trafficking by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.

On a Qatar Airways trip from Doha to Italy on August 28, Ehiarimwiam was detained. A native of Edo State's Orhionmwon Local Government Area, he was discovered to have 5,000 Tramadol 225mg tablets hidden in his luggage.

The suspect is a regular traveller, according to preliminary investigation, and frequently carries numerous bags filled with most food items, body cream, hair accessories, and drinks. According to reports, the suspect handed over his customary huge cargo for search to NDLEA agents, but held onto a few packages. These were taken from him and thoroughly investigated, which is how the drugs were found.

Mathew Bobby Imonitie, a meth dealer who was found in possession of 4.033 kilogrammes of the illegal substance, was also taken into custody as a result of a follow-up operation conducted within the estate.

In a similar vein, members of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army have given over to the Lagos Command 792 blocks of cannabis sativa that were being smuggled into Ogun State from Ghana's Volta region but were stopped at a checkpoint on the Ilaro-Benin Republic border.

On Thursday, September 1, NDLEA agents in Niger state stopped a vehicle carrying animal supplies from Lagos to Kaduna that contained 450 compressed blocks and 111 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,531kg that belonged to a trader in Zaria. According to reports, the truck's narcotics shipment was loaded in Akure, Ondo state. Yahaya Sani, the truck driver, Samaila Rabiu, Bilal Ibrahim, his motor boy, Awolu Isyaku, the representative of the cannabis owner, and Mustapha Abdulrahman, a passenger, were all detained.

A car loaded in Onitsha, Anambra state with 811 000 tablets of Tramadol, Diazepam, and Exol 5 and weighing 150 kg was intercepted by agents in Gombe State in the Ahmadu-Kafi neighbourhood.

In Ondo, NDLEA agents searching the Ala woodland in the Akure North LGA for a drug boss have detained eight alleged bandits who were terrorising local farmers. Along with Sunday Adekunle, 31, Kayode Oluwaseun, 29, Kolawole Kazeem, 33, Oladimeji Makinde, 37, Emeka Charles, 46, Ojo Oluwadare, 40, and Lanre Oluwajana, 44, the gang's leader Austin Dickson, 47, was also detained.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, the alleged bandits were apprehended. Twenty-five (25) bags of cannabis sativa totaling 296 kg, six (6) explosive devices, six (6) cartridges, four (4) motorcycles, and various charms meant to terrorise farmers in the forest were all recovered from them.

On Saturday, September 3, agents in Sokoto stopped a commercial bus, and from it, two five CD loader players were found on the Sokoto-Bodinga route. When the CD players were searched, 5.5 kg of cannabis were found inside, and the owner, Nasiru Ibrahim, was taken into custody. In a different bus, suspected bandit Sani Ibrahim, 37, was taken into custody along Kware Road with some ammunition and cannabis sativa.

Following an intelligence-led operation at her home at House 56 Aldenco Estate in Galadimawa, where agents removed fresh stems of cannabis plants planted in the backyard of the house, Onyinye Nwoke, a 38-year-old entrepreneur from Abuja, was detained. 18.4 kilogramme of the uprooted plants and 800 grammes of cannabis seeds were recovered from the home.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, praised the officers and personnel of the MMIA, Lagos, Niger, Sokoto, Ondo, FCT, and Gombe Commands for the arrests and seizures. He commanded them to step up the pressure on Nigeria's drug gangs while balancing their efforts to reduce the supply of drugs with those to reduce demand for them.
