NSCDC denies alleged interference with AMAC election result
Dr. Peter Maigari, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has denied any tampering with the results of the chairperson election for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on February 12, 2022.

According to Maigari, the Nigeria Police is the top organisation for overseeing election security.

The argument was made in opposition to claims that Samuel Balogun, a member of the NSCDC, was one of the security officials accused of being engaged in the alleged manufacture of election results that differed from those of INEC, which the tribunal had relied upon in making its conclusion.

Recall that in the FCT area council chairperson election, the FCT Election Tribunal recently ruled in favour of Murtala Usman Karshi, the AMAC chairmanship candidate, and against the incumbent AMAC chairman, Christopher Zakka.

The FCT-NSCDC director claimed that the corps was not participating in the tribunal process or election process while paying a courtesy call on the AMAC Chairman on Thursday.

According to him: “So, as far as election issues are concerned, I cannot prosecute electoral issues except the police. The Civil Defender who spoke there, is on his own, and I’m sure the Commandant General is not aware of this, so I will address the issue with the Commandant General. It is not in our character to malign, what we do is the correct thing.”
