The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for the state's July 16 gubernatorial election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was recognised by the Supreme Court on Thursday. He is now the newly elected governor of Osun state.
Prince Dotun Babayemi, who won the PDP governorship ticket in a parallel primary election held by a party faction in the state, filed an appeal against Adeleke with the supreme court, which was dismissed in a unanimous decision by a five-justice panel.
After the panel presided over by Justice Amina Augie called his attention to the fact that the case was time-barred, the appellant's attorney, Adebayo Adelodun, SAN, withdrew the appeal.
The panel had maintained that the appeal was incompetent, stressing that it was filed outside the 14 days period provided by the law.
