Police rescue kidnapped Katsina PDP assembly candidate, others
Ibrahim Tafashiya, a House of Assembly candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and many other people were abducted by terrorists in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday night. They were freed yesterday by the state's police.

Superintendent Gambo Isah, a spokesman for the state's Police Command, who had earlier verified the kidnapping, said the rescue came as a result of the police's quick response to the distress call it received.

He said: “The Divisional Police Officer of Kankia Superintendent Ilyasu Ibrahim led his men, blocked the terrorists and engaged them in a gun duel leading to the rescue of the victims.

“The terrorists also came to the residence of the Registrar of the Isa Kaita College of Education, Salisu Gide within the metropolis and abducted him and his wife.

“Upon receipt of their distress call, we engaged the terrorists and rescued the registrar but the terrorists succeeded in taking away his wife’’.

As the terrorists were spotted somewhere in the Batsari Local Government Area axis, Isah reassured the people that an operation is in progress to free her and other hostages.

At about 5:17 am on Sunday, a similar occurrence took place at Sabuwar Kwata in the Jibiya Local Government Area, when the terrorists kidnapped three people, including two children and an adult.
