A suspension bridge across a river in western India collapsed, killing at least 141 people.
The incident, which happened on Sunday night in Morbi in the Gujarat state of western India, was described by the local media.
The bridge, which had just recently reopened following maintenance work, collapsed, killing 141 people but saving 177 others, according to the report.
According to a police officer, 132 people passed away, 100 were hurt, and some are still missing.
Up to 500 people may have been on the 232-meter-long suspension bridge at the moment of its collapse, according to the investigation.
Social media posts included images and videos of the pedestrian bridge collapsing in the centre with numerous people clinging to it to keep from falling into the sea.
Gujarat's Labor Minister, Brijesh Merja, announced the beginning of an investigation into the incident.
The office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the relatives of the victims would receive compensation.
