For the second time in a week, the meeting between All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola tinubu, the party governor, the party's National Working Committee (NWC), and the controversial Presidential Campaign Committee (PCC) concluded yesterday (Watch TInubu Reaction) dead end.
The meeting again failed to agree on a specific date for the ruling party to end its campaign, but the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, walked out of the hours-long talks, leading to a situation in the party. The meeting was a follow-up to a tripartite committee meeting last Wednesday aimed at agreeing on the list of the party's presidential campaign (Watch TInubu Reaction) committee.
But the PCC spokesman, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), said the schedule of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the chairman of the campaign committee, delayed the start of the campaign. Meanwhile, the APC presidential candidate and wife of Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday called on women to mobilize for the party's victory in next year's election.
As the new media director and leader of the PCC, Femi Fani-Kayode, also said yesterday, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost five victim governors to its failure to manage the party's trends. The said governors are Nyesome Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
Today recalled that the initial announcement of the 422-member race list created rifts in the party, with the governor, party leadership, and stakeholders expressing displeasure. It is against this backdrop that the ruling party's campaign has been put on hold indefinitely to ensure that everyone is on board and everyone is on the move.
The meeting started a few minutes later at 11 and ended at 2:15pm at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, where Tinubu appointed the Director-General and Governor of Highland State, Simon Lalong; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Bajabia Mira; and the party's vice-presidential candidate, Senator Kasim Shettima. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, PCC representative Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) said that President Muhammadu Buhari's schedule as chairman of the campaign committee contributed significantly to the delay in the campaign. He said Buhari's schedule must be taken into consideration before a specific date for the campaign to begin is set.
