Ekiti laundryman jailed three years for internet fraud
On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin convicted one Fapohunda Paul Olasunkanmi, a laundry worker from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, to three years in jail for offences linked to internet fraud.

Fapohunda, 23, was detained in Ado-Ekiti on April 26, 2022, by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command. He was found to be involved in a dating scam where he pretended to be an American white man named Ethan Jones to swindle unwitting victims.

He also utilised false email addresses to carry out other illicit deeds like stealing gift cards, cash payments, and bitcoins.

The convict was found to be in control of N92million believed to be proceeds of illegal activities between August 2021 and April 2022.

He pleaded guilty to a one-count charge.
