Governor Wike grants 28,000 new Political Appointments

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, announced on Wednesday that 28,000 people have been appointed to various political positions. (See Wike here)

The appointments were made public in a statement by his spokesman Kelvin Ebiri. According to the statement, all the appointments take effect immediately.

Punch NG reports that the new appointments came barely 24 hours after the governor of Rivers State appointed 14,000 special advisers, as well as 319 departmental officers and 40 local government area liaison officers.

Ebiri added that Governor Wike had also earmarked N1 billion to assist flood victims in the state, including those affected in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas of the state.

According to him, the measure aims to "enable vulnerable families, particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, which are the worst affected areas in the state, to cope with the devastating floods that have inundated homes and farmland, forcing residents of the affected communities to move to safer locations".

A working group has been set up to ensure that those affected receive state support.

Dr George Nwaeke, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Government, Office of the Secretary to the Government, will chair the task force and Inime I. Aguma is its secretary.

Other members of the task force are the chairman of the LGA, Ahoada West Hon. Hope Ikiriko, the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA Hon. Vincent Job, Hon. Chukwuemeka Onowo and the Director of Administration at the Ministry of Special Duties.

All members of the task force were scheduled to meet Governor Wike on Thursday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, Naija News reports.
