Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has a letter of consent for the development of the Lekki airport.
At the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit on Tuesday, Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation, sent the letter to the governor.
The airport, according to Sirika, will connect Nigeria to the rest of the world and make Lagos more accessible for global business collaborations.
Ope George, the governor's special adviser on public-private partnerships (PPPs), stated a few days ago that construction on the project will start in 2023 and take up 3,500 hectares of land.
In Alausa, Ikeja, George revealed the information during a media roundtable.
He said the state government had sought and obtained approval from the federal government for the construction of the new airport.
“The project is expected to take off in the year 2023, it will be constructed on 3,500 hectares of land, master plan and aeronautical designs are in place; while studies are ongoing about strategies, funding and other issues, after which the project will be taken to the market place,” he had said.
The airport, which is expected to cater to a minimum of five million people yearly, will be constructed in partnership with local and foreign investors.
