According to Ovie Omo-Agege, the chairman of the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee, only 11 out of the 36 State Houses of Assembly have shown independence and loyalty to the nation six months after 44 constitution bills were passed and sent to those bodies. This is because they are the only ones who have given the bills any thought.
According to the legislator, the 25 more State Houses of the Assembly have declined to consider the bills.
In a news conference held on Tuesday in the National Assembly to discuss the 44 proposed constitutional amendment measures, Omo-Agege made this claim.
According to the Deputy Senate President, a letter was received from the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly that the remaining states will not act on the bills unless the National Assembly passes four new bills they proposed.
The bills are the establishment of state police, and state judicial council, a streamlined procedure for removing presiding officers of state houses of assembly and a bill to institutionalise legislative bureaucracy in the constitution.
