Prime Minister Liz Truss fired British Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng on Friday, making him the third chancellor to resign from the cabinet this year.
You requested me to step down as your Chancellor, therefore I will. Kwarteng responded in a letter to Truss that he posted on Twitter, "I have accepted.
His dismissal comes following reports in the media that Truss was planning to renegotiate some of their economic package before a news conference in an effort to weather the current economic and political unrest in the nation. View More
“It is important now as we move forward to emphasise your government’s commitment to fiscal discipline. The Medium-Term Fiscal Plan is crucial to this end, and I look forward to supporting you and my successor to achieve that from the backbenches,” Kwarteng said.
