As political campaigns officially begin in line with the elections timetable stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party(LP), Peter Obi can not win the 2023 presidential election. (See Peter Obi's Reply)
As reported by Vanguard, Shagari made this statement while answering questions on a live television program, Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. He said the truth of the matter is that there are two dominant parties in Nigeria, the APC, and PDP. If you want to become President, I think you must belong to one of these two parties. He added that he was contacted by the Labour Party to become Obi’s vice presidential candidate. But, he declined the opportunity because he did not believe Obi stood a chance in 2023.
Meanwhile, as reported earlier, a former governor of Enugu State and Senator representing Enugu East senatorial District, Chimaroke Nnamani, has faulted the decision of the PDP to ignore five of its governors as it commenced presidential campaigns for the forthcoming 2023 elections.
