Wikipedia Partners Yoruba World Centre to Preserve History
The International Centre for Yoruba Arts and Culture (the Yoruba World Centre) and Wikipedia, the giant online encyclopaedia in the world, have partnered to promote, preserve, and defend Yoruba history, language, and culture.

The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group, one of the 183 foreign representatives of Wikimedia Foundation Incorporation, the company that runs Wikipedia, expressed its collaborative interest to the Center on Saturday at the University of Ibadan.

Mikaeel Sodiq, the president, and Isaac Olatunde, the administrator of the Nigerian Yoruba Wikipedia, were in charge of the Wikimedians. A group led by Ogbeni Alao Adedayo, Coordinator of the Yoruba World Centre, welcomed them.

They claim that the main goal of this collaboration is to foster a strong relationship between the Yoruba World Centre and the Wikipedia Community by encouraging the inclusion of digital content from verifiable sources on Yoruba Wikipedia in a way that will be acceptable to all Yoruba language users, readers, writers, and enthusiasts in Nigeria and the Diaspora.

Explaining the Administrator, Olatunde, the Wikimedians intends to use the resources of the Yoruba World Centre to improve the quality and credibility of contents on Yoruba Wikipedia, and to promote the Centre among Yoruba academics, students and researchers all over the world.

The YWC Coordinator responded by stating that although the centre had been operational since 2014, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President, officially presented it to the public in late 2017. Since then, the centre has lived up to expectations as the main hub for the documentation, preservation, and promotion of Yoruba history, language, arts, and culture.

He explained to the crowd that in order to fulfil its mission, the centre works in conjunction with other language and culture development organisations such as the DAWN Commission, Egbe Akomolede ati Asa, the Yoruba Studies Association (YSAN), and the Centre for Yoruba Language Engineering (CEYOLENG). He thinks that this will significantly advance Wikipedia's goals.
