213 people die of dengue fever in Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi government announced eight more dengue fever fatalities on Tuesday, increasing the country's total for the year to 213 deaths.

One person died in June, nine in July, eleven in August, 34 in September, 86 in October, and 72 in November, according to a report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

9,911 dengue cases were reported, according to the DGHS, in September, 21,832 in October, and 11,968 in the first half of November.

Zahid Maleque, the health minister for Bangladesh, emphasised the significance of bolstering preventative measures, claiming that preventing dengue without widespread public awareness was challenging.

According to Mr Maleque, as the weather changes due to climate change, the dengue outbreak is still rampant amid intermittent rains in the country, making things more difficult.

The majority of the reported cases this year occurred in the capital Dhaka.

Six hundred and ninety-two new dengue cases, including 372 in Dhaka, were reported in 24 hours by 8:00 a.m. local time Tuesday.

Bangladesh has recorded 49,922 dengue cases and 46,928 recoveries this year.

The number of dengue fever patients was 28,429 in 2021, and 105 died.
