The Gombi-Gaanda and Michika-Moda-Kamale highways' contracts to be built have been terminated with the approval of the Adamawa State Executive Council.
At a press conference shortly after the council meeting on Wednesday in Yola, Umar Pella, the state's commissioner for information and strategy, revealed this.
According to Mr Pella, AG Vission Construction Limited was given the two contracts in 2009 and 2013, costing N4.6 billion and N2.9 billion respectively, but the contractor was unable to finish them.
The contractor, who had been handed numerous contracts at different periods, had, according to him, displayed the highest degree of reliability and insensitivity, and the government would no longer allow such behaviour.
In order to demonstrate that payments had been made to the contractor, he used the example of the Gombi Gaanda road, where the contractor had received almost 80% of the project's contract price.
According to Mr Pella, the council has instructed the ministry of works and housing to work with the ministry of justice to guarantee that the contract is cancelled and liquidated.
The projects, according to the commissioner, were given to a more capable contractor who would complete them for the state.
In a related development, Mr Pella also said that the council had approved the purchase of six Toyota Camry models from 2015 and 2016 for the four High Court Judges and Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, at a cost of N11 million per vehicle.
The Commissioner said that the contract was awarded to Naiwa Global Link Limited, and was expected to be delivered within the next three months.
