Austin Okocha: Cameroon lucky to lose to Switzerland by a single goal
Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, has reacted to Cameroon’s loss to Switzerland in Thursday’s Group G match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

As a result of a goal scored by Cameroonian-born Swiss forward Breel Embolo in the second half, the former African champions fell short, 1-0.

After evaluating the game, Okocha concluded that Rigobert Song’s team had given Switzerland too much flexibility to do anything they wanted and that Switzerland was fortunate not to have lost by more goals because of Manuel Akanji’s missed chance.

The former Super Eagles skipper said on SuperSport, “the best chance of the game, and it could have been the worst time to concede.”

“I think the manager couldn’t believe how free Akanji was, and it was more difficult to miss that (headed chance) than hit the target, and the Cameroonians were lucky not to have conceded there.”

Cameroon, meanwhile, has not won a World Cup match in over a decade; on the other hand, they will be hoping to end that drought when they meet Serbia at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
