A British comedian destroyed 10,000 pounds ($11,900) in bank notes after threatening former England soccer captain David Beckham with a severance package worth up to $11,900.
Beckham, a former midfielder for Manchester United and Real Madrid, has chosen to work in Qatar despite criticism of the country's treatment of foreign workers, acceptance of LGBTQ+ people, and strict social laws.
If Beckham did not agree to cut ties with the World Cup host, Joe Lycett threatened last week to shred the money or donate it to charity.
In a rainbow-colored dress, Lycett uploaded video footage of himself on Sunday inserting two stacks of five-pound notes into a woodchipper.
Earlier, Lycett had called Qatar “one of the worst places to be gay,” and Beckham “a gay icon.”
Although he has received the ultimatum, Beckham has not responded to it in public.
Despite the fact that homosexuality is illegal in Qatar, the organizers of the World Cup there have assured everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or background, that they will have a wonderful time.
The country has also refuted claims that it abused workers or paid bribes to secure the hosting rights.
