Following a draw for the elimination round that took place on Monday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyoman, Switzerland, Manchester United will meet Barcelona in the most notable match of the UEFA Europa League playoff round of games.
Barcelona, which was eliminated from the Champions League, is drawn against the Red Devils, who came in second place in their group behind Real Sociedad.
In the lower division of European competition, neither team has faced the other, but in the Champions League, Barcelona has had more success.
Five of the last ten European meetings between the two clubs have been won by the Catalans. Only one was won by Manchester United, and four ended in draws.
Sixteen teams will be participating in this phase of the Europa League, including eight teams that finished as runners-up from their respective groups and another eight teams that dropped down from the Champions League.
In other matches for the knockout phase playoffs, Juventus will face Nantes, Sporting Lisbon paired against Midtjylland and Shakhtar Donetsk has drawn against Rennes.
Ajax, who were finalists in 2017, will lock horns with Union Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen will play AS Monaco, Sevilla against PSV and Salzburg will face AS Roma.
The two legs will be played on February 16 and 23, 2023, with overall winners of each match progressing to the Round of 16 draws scheduled for February 24, 2023.
