Ghana has disregarded a security warning issued to its citizens on Wednesday telling them not to visit Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
The name and logo of Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration were displayed on the Wednesday notice.
It said that "the directive by local authorities to hotels operating in residential buildings to shut down" was the reason why Nigeria ordered the closure of several hotels.
A "high danger of terrorism, criminality, intercommunal conflict, armed attacks, and kidnappings" was also mentioned in the statement.
In a Thursday morning tweet, the administration proclaimed the speech unauthorized and apologized for any inconvenience it may have caused.
The response stated, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to refer to the travel advisory published this evening, Wednesday, November 16, 2022, advising against non-essential travel to Abuja and wishes to state that the statement was unauthorized.
“The Ministry is not aware of any threat targeted at Ghanaians who continue to live in harmony with their Nigerian brothers and sisters.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration regrets any inconvenience this may have caused to the traveling public.”
