Gunmen kill nine family members in Plateau community

Nine members of one family were among the many people killed by gunmen who attacked the Maikatako Community in the Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) of the Plateau.

On Wednesday in Jos, DSP Alfred Alabo, the state's police command's police public relations officer (PPRO), verified the event to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Alabo claimed that on Tuesday night, the assailants broke into the neighbourhood and began firing randomly.

The PPRO stated that men from the command had been sent to the community to maintain calm and pledged to provide more information about the incident.

“Our men are currently going after the assailants; we are on top of the situation, but the details of the attack are still sketchy,” he said.

However, Mahanan Job, a resident of the community, told NAN that so far in the search and rescue conducted by community members, 18 dead bodies had been recovered.

According to Job, there is serious tension in the community, even with the presence of policemen and soldiers.
