According to the Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC), in the Babura Local Government Area of the state, contaminated food items worth N2 million have been destroyed.
This was said by the committee's spokesperson, Habibu Yusuf, in a Dutse interview on Sunday.
The commodities, according to Mr. Yusuf, included millet, sesame seeds, and the flower known as "Zobo" from hibiscus plants.
He claimed that on November 14, when the committee made unauthorised visits to the Babura and Gumel markets, the traders had their goods seized.
He explained that the millet, hibiscus flower, and sesame were all tainted with sawdust, rice tusk, and sawdust.
The spokesman added that the Chairman of the committee, Faruk Abdallah, who led the exercise, warned traders across the state to desist from adulterating food items because of its harmful effects on the people.
He said Mr Abdallah assured that the committee would not relent in its effort to stop the circulation of unwholesome and fake products in the state.
The chairman added that any trader found perpetrating the act would face the wrath of the law.
