Lagos police arrest three over death of Ikorodu pupil
SP Benjamin Hundeyin

In relation to the death of a student at the International Staff School of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, three people have been detained.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state's police spokesman, stated on Monday that the command looked into the circumstances surrounding the death of Abdul-Rahman Dauda, a little kid who was being chased by his teacher when he was struck by a moving vehicle in Ikorodu.

Three people, according to Mr. Hundeyin, have been detained and put on custody by the court.

On video posted on Instagram, the mother of the dead is seen protesting her son's passing in front of the school gate while holding a banner.

The online blog reports that the SS2 pupil was being chased by his teacher and got involved in a fatal road accident on October 28.

Noting that the “situation is regrettable,” the school management in a statement issued on Sunday claimed that three people were arraigned before the court on October 31, and were remanded at a correctional facility in the state.

Commiserating with the victim’s family, the school said that the incident was investigated by the management and the police immediately after the matter was reported.

According to the statement, “Subsequently, the case was taken to the court of competent jurisdiction, and appearances started on Monday, 31 October 2022.

“The three affected members of staff who were allegedly accused of complicity in the unfortunate situation are currently remanded at the Nigerian Correctional facilities in Lagos.

“As the case is already before a competent court, we seek the public’s prayers and understanding with the school Management and parents of the deceased at this moment of grief and sober reflection.”

The school management added that “This statement is necessary to state the current situation to the public for record purposes. The situation is regrettable.”
