On Tuesday in Damaturu, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) gave food supplies to Yobe flood victims.
The donation, according to Mustapha Ahmed, director-general of NEMA, was made to support the state government's attempt to relieve flood victims.
Muhammed Kanar, the Deputy Director of Human Resources at NEMA, attended the presentation on Mr Ahmed's behalf.
“To ameliorate the sufferings of the affected persons, the federal government through NEMA has approved the delivery of the materials,” he said.
He listed the items to include 1,000 bags of 10kg rice, 1,000 bags of 10kg beans, 1,000 bags of 10kg maize, 75 bags of salt and 75 kegs of vegetable oils.
Others were 150 cartons of seasoning cubes, 75 cartons of tin tomatoes, 7,350 pieces of nylon mats and 1,000 pieces of insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
Others still were 2,500 pieces of guinea brocade, 1,000 pieces of new children’s wear, 600 cartons of toilet soap, and 1,000 pieces of men's and women’s wear each.
In appreciation, Governor Mai Mala Buni commended the federal government and NEMA for their support of the state.
Mr Buni, represented by Baba Malam-Wali, Secretary to the State Government, said the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the victims.
In his remarks, Muhammed Goje, Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, said the 2022 flood affected about 31,000 persons in the state.
