The governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, claims that because Nigerians are not accustomed to terror alerts from the United States, they are uneasy.
“I went to school in America. I lived in America. I worked in America. They have lots of these kinds of alerts that they send. On your telephone you will get alerts as far as weather is concerned, as far as security is concerned,” Mr Sule said.
“In our own country, we are not well informed to that level. So when they send this kind of alert to us, it scares us. We get so scared because of the nature of our own country. America is sending this based on their own intelligence report.”
The governor made this statement in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday night.
Speaking further, Mr Sule said “It’s like a governor when you receive intelligence reports from DSS, police and other sources. You work on them. Can you imagine if every security alert from DSS is what we announced on TV.”
Last week, the U.S. and UK embassies in Abuja, issued security advisories, warning of potential terrorist attack in the nation’s capital, while evacuating its staff from the country.
The terror alert listed government buildings, worship centers, and markets as potential target of the terrorists.
However, Nigerian defence minister, Bashir Magashi, dismissed the security advisories as a “confusing,” saying Nigeria needs prayers from U.S. not terror alerts.
