Abel Essan, 25, and Emmanuel Charles, 20, two unemployed men, were taken before an Ejigbo Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Monday for allegedly stealing a tricycle valued at N1.8 million.
The accused are facing trial on two counts of conspiracy and theft; their home addresses were not disclosed.
The defendants and a third person, who is still at large, committed the crimes on October 8 at the Igando bus stop in Igando, Lagos, according to the prosecution, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan.
He said that the complainant Theophilus Nwonye's tricycle, with the registration number SMK 798 QL and a value of N1.8 million, was stolen by the defendants.
He claimed that the trike was taken from where it was parked by the defendants.
Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 provides three years imprisonment for the offence of stealing, while Section 411 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, K. A. Ariyo, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a blood relative of the defendants.
Ariyo adjourned the case until Nov.15 for mention.
