2023: Ebonyi governor denies backing PDP guber candidate

David Umahi, the incumbent governor of Ebonyi, has refuted rumours that he will support Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odi, the PDP candidate for governor of the state, in the approaching 2023 election.

This is according to a statement made in Abakaliki by Mr Chooks Oko, his Special Assistant on Media.

Oko claims that the governor made this declaration while speaking with members of the Christian Association of Nigeria in his hometown of Uburu, Ohaozara LGA (CAN).

The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate in Ebonyi South, Umahi, denied the accusations, calling them unfounded.

“Those who are saying that Odii is a tool in our hand are very wrong. If they know the attack I face every day, they won’t say that.”

He continued, “If I were to support, I would prefer someone else, who came from a tiny constituency, not someone, who came from my own zone.”

Umahi urged CAN, the elders, the founding fathers, and all stakeholders to back zoning and power rotation to maintain long-term peace in the state.

“When we were contesting in 2015, the North and Central supported us; their leaders stood with us,” Umahi noted.

The PDP candidate for governor of Ebonyi in the 2023 election, Odii, is from the same zone as Umahi, according to Prime 9ja Online.

It was in the Christmas spirit, Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, chairman of CAN in the southeast, stated when he went to congratulate the governor.
