26-year-old arrested for killing driver over minor accident

Adeyemi Babatunde, 26, has been detained for the fatal vehicular accident that resulted in the death of Obafunsho Ismail, a driver who was 46 years old.

The event happened on December 8, according to the information that is now available; however, the suspect was only detained on December 20.

On December 8, 2022, at around 8 p.m., the suspect, driving a Lexus jeep with a customised licence plate reading "Olu of Oya," reportedly struck Ismail's automobile from behind, damaging the rear light of the latter vehicle.

The suspect was there when the dead arrived from his car and requested the suspect to follow him so they could inspect the damage and devise a solution.

However, Babatunde attempted to flee while refusing to get out of his car.

The dead were enraged by this and requested that the suspect descend.

As a result, he sat on the suspect's car's hood to keep him from fleeing the scene.

Later, Babatunde arrived to tell Ismail that if he didn't want to squander his life, he should get out of his car's hood.

The dead were then forced to tumble to the ground when he returned to the automobile and drove quickly.

Then he was trampled by the automobile.

The suspect continued to drive back over him to make sure the victim would die.

He carried out the deed and then fled with the car.

Later, Babatunde was located at his father's residence in the Kemta Idi Aba neighbourhood of Abeokuta. On December 20, 2022, men from the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division detained him in the capital of Ogun State.

Additionally, the vehicle he used to carry out the crime was found and brought to the police.

Babatunde has been moved to the state Criminal Investigation Department's Homicide Section for additional investigation and prosecution, per an order from the Command's Commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole.
