Nigeria will compete against Egypt, Senegal, and Mozambique at the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations Finals, which will be held in Egypt from February 19 to March 11. In Group A, all four teams will compete.
The draw was place on Friday night in Cairo, and it determined that Uganda, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and the Congo would participate in Group B, while The Gambia, Tunisia, the Benin Republic, and Zambia would fight in Group C.
The top four teams in Egypt will advance to the FIFA U20 World Cup finals, which will be held in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11. These teams will represent Africa there. More than eight teams were present for the first time at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The Flying Eagles, champions of the WAFU B zone qualifying campaign, will take the field first against Senegal, champions of the WAFU A zone qualifiers.
Egypt automatically qualified as the host nation, with the other three teams being Tunisia of North Africa, Mozambique of COSAFA, and Zambia of Southern Africa. Similar to how Benin Republic joined Nigeria from WAFU B after losing to Nigeria in the WAFU B final in Niamey in May, The Gambia joined Senegal from WAFU A.
Uganda and South Sudan are from East Africa, whereas Congo-Brazzaville and the Central African Republic are from Central Africa.
