Cleric: Hurting your brother over party differences is evil

All Christians in Taraba State have been urged to abstain from actions that can influence the forthcoming elections.

The call was made on Friday by the Reverend Dr. Micah Dopah, who oversees Connectional Ministries for the United Methodist Church.

Dopah urged people to participate fully in the activity because it will produce god-fearing leaders in his address to the church's 40th Annual Conference Session in the Zing local government area of Taraba.

The clergy believed that failing to cast a ballot in every election amounted to selling out and would incur God's wrath.

He urged Tarabans and Nigerians to distance themselves from politics of hatred and said that "hurting your brother because of party disagreements is wrong."

He argued that none of the All Progressives Congress, Social Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Allied Peoples' Movement, or Labour Parties are mentioned in the Bible.

He emphasised that voters may still send a message by rejecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) notwithstanding his opposition of the APC's selection of a Muslim as president and a Muslim as vice president, respectively.

He urged his congregation to “do everything possible to defeat the Muslim/Muslim ticket” and warned that “our youths must avoid political thuggery and play healthy politics.”
