Musa Lawal, a 21-year-old butcher, was remanded in a Zaria Chief Magistrates' Court on Monday for allegedly attempting to murder his father.
Lawal, who lives in Unguwar Karfe, Zaria, was charged with attempted murder.
Lawal was remanded in Zaria Custodial Centre pending legal advice from the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice, according to Magistrate Ramatu Dalhatu, who did not hear his plea.
Dalhatu asserted that the magistrate court lacked jurisdiction to hear cases under sections 240,293 and 199 of the 2017 Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
She postponed the matter until January 17 for further consideration.
Earlier, ASP Sarki Abdullahi, the Prosecution Counsel, told the court that the incident occurred on December 14 at approximately 14.00 hours.
He said the suspect was arrested by Muntari Musa and brought to the Zaria City Divisional Police Headquarters.
He said a sharp knife stained with blood was recovered from the suspect.
The police said the suspect used the knife to stab his father, Lawal Danja twice om the left side of his back while (Danja) was praying in a mosque in Rimin Tsiwa, Zaria.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 240,293 and 199 of Kaduna State Criminal Law 2017.
