CSOs have continued to demand that Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), be dismissed for alleged partisanship.
Civil society organisations (CSOs) operating under the aegis of the Coalition of Civil Societies of Nigeria (CCSN) asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) resign after he made a political comment in Rivers State.
The Nigerian Police's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command's anti-riot police personnel dispersed the CSOs who had started peacefully protesting at the Supreme Court the week before.
The coalition had started a protest march to the National Assembly in response to what they perceived as the CJN's obvious partisanship, in addition to demanding Ariwoola's expulsion if he refused to resign.
This coalition was established by 18 CSOs, or civil society organisations. These organisations include the Movement for the Development of Democracy, the Safeguard Nigeria Movement, the Democratic Youth Initiative, the Nigeria Youth Development Forum, the Civil Society Forum of Nigeria, and the Forum for Social Justice.
The Alliance for People's Welfare, the Forward Nigeria Movement, the Defenders of Democracy, the Human Rights Crusaders, the Democratic Rights Assembly, and the Voters Rights Assembly are a few more.
The coalition's team leader, Olayinka Dada, spoke at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja and said that they had devised procedures and legal ways by which the CJN would resign if he refused.
