Biafra, David Oyelowo's Yoruba Saxon Productions, Fremantle, and Richard Johns' Argo Films will collaborate for their project. Bola Agbaje, a Laurence Olivier Award-winning author, is writing the script, and Ngozi Onwurah is directing. The limited series is being produced by Johns, Oyelowo, Isimeme Ibazebo of Turnover Films, and Christian Vesper, head of global drama at Fremantle.
The 1967–1970 Biafra War and the present-day conflict between Nigeria and the United Kingdom are depicted in the historical play Biafra. The programme takes a close look at the most ignored incidents in the shared history of Britain and America through the eyes of a young Black British lady. The storylines in Biafra are character-driven and explore universal themes of identity, family, and belonging.
Biafra is "one of my most prized projects," according to actor David Oyelowo, who is of Nigerian descent. He also said the series satisfies his desire to "have African stories told at the finest level."
Johns, who launched Agro Films just one week ago, stated, "Britain and Nigeria have a highly important, complex, and historical relationship, one that is still very much alive today. Our goal in creating this series is to present a gripping tale about finding and regaining one's lost identity and forgotten past.
