The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has received a N107 million reimbursement from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in recompense for the subpar meal services provided to pilgrims from non-Arab African nations by the business of Mutawwifs.
Mousa Ubandawaki, the division's assistant director for information and publications at NAHCON, revealed this in a statement.
Ubandawaki stated that the development followed multiple letters and warnings from the commission to the corporation over the subpar feeding services during the Masha'ir season. The remark was made on Tuesday in Abuja.
He recounted how the substandard services provided by the Muassassah to Nigerian pilgrims during the Hajj's peak five days in 2022 ruined the pilgrimage.
The Chairman and CEO of NAHCON, Alhaji Zikhrullah Hassan, called the development heartwarming.
The commission's dogged efforts to correct the improper meal arrangements and subpar services provided to Nigerian pilgrims at the 2022 Hajj by the Muassassah, he said, were vindicated.
Hassan said: “I really want to thank my counterparts from the Mutawwifs for this role in ensuring that they refunded the money paid for services not rendered or poorly delivered.”
The Mutawwifs or Muassassah is the Saudi Company responsible for accommodation, transportation and feeding of Nigerians and other African in Muna and Arafat during the Hajj.
