Nine people have been detained by the Police Command of Oyo State in connection with the passing of Hakeem Mudashiru, an organiser for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo town.
On Wednesday, gunmen who may have been connected to a rival political party killed Mudashiru with a machete in his father's residence.
SP. Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), however, confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Thursday in Ibadan.
Osifeso claims that the murder suspects have been placed in custody.
He said the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the situation right now.
Osifeso said the preliminary evidence points to the dead being attacked by thugs with whom he had a fight before to his passing.
"One Hakeem Mudashiru, 40 years old, was slain at random on Wednesday at approximately 1.35 p.m. at Durbar Divisional Police Headquarters, Oyo State," claims his father Jimoh Agala.
According to Osifeso, police officers had been dispatched to the area to reestablish order.
The police force has made a commitment to enlighten the people.
