Housewife prays court to compel husband to take care of ill son

Hajiya Rabi'atu Ahmad, a housewife, sought a court order forcing her husband Adamu Aliyu to care for their ill son on Tuesday in the Rigasa neighborhood of Kaduna.

The complainant informed the court that their son had a heart condition that required surgery.

"My husband has declined to find the money for the procedure. When we were admitted to Kaduna's teaching hospital, my husband requested a discharge without the doctor's consent.

Since we cannot afford the surgery, we are currently taking medication. He says he is too exhausted to buy the medications, she said.

The accused claimed he was not in good financial standing.

The defendant was mandated by the judge, Mallam Abubakar Salisu-Tureta, to return the child to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment.

He adjourned the matter Dec. 12.
