The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from the recent attacks on the INEC office in Owerri, Imo State.
In a statement released yesterday, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, claimed that the movement has never before participated in or supported the obstruction of any election or violence in Nigeria.
It stated that, if necessary, the only thing it could do would be to urge Ndigbo to refrain from voting in the upcoming general election.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for the arrest of individuals calling for a sit-at-home order in the Southeast from December 9 to 14. It said they were criminals.
An anonymous male voice issued a warning in a video that went popular on social media, advising residents in the Southeast to stay indoors on December 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14.
The voice said that anybody caught outside during those times would be killed, so people should stock up on necessities now through December 8.
According to what Powerful told Prime 9ja Online, the IPOB leadership never issued a stay-at-home directive.
