King Felipe of Spain denounces Ukraine war in Christmas message

King Felipe VI strongly denounced Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its effects in his traditional Christmas speech to the Spanish people.

In his Christmas message, which was broadcast Saturday night on radio and television, the monarch stated that the war had "already wreaked a degree of carnage and ruin that is impossible to conceive."

Felipe voiced worry about how a "global importance" battle would affect Spain's security.

He stated that Spain should "strengthen collective defence" with its allies in light of this.

However, it is equally important to work toward world peace.

The 54-year-old emphasised that Spain's present and future are supported by "the two pillars" of democracy and EU membership.

Felipe cautioned that there are three main hazards that democracies are currently facing: "division," "deterioration of cohabitation," and "erosion of institutions."

During his speech, which was recorded a few days ago and lasted around 12 minutes, the president discussed the nation's economic and energy difficulties as well as inflation in a number of different countries.

This, according to him, had a terrible impact on Spanish homes.

He stated that the recent price increase, particularly in food, has put people's sense of safety in jeopardy.

Communities and individuals are both making sacrifices, some of them significant.
