The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), according to the Federal Government, has been tasked with looking into potential instances of money laundering in connection with the N-Power Program.
According to Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the payment methods used for N-Power recipients have occasionally been inconsistent.
”The sharp practice was carried out by some personnel of the Payment Service Provider (PSP), hence the need to invite the anti-graft agency for a thorough probe.
“The matter was immediately referred to ICPC for investigation when we received information about some sharp practises by personnel of the Payment Service Provider involved in the payment processes of beneficiaries,” he said.
The permanent secretary acknowledged that some people had received invitations to participate in interviews as part of the inquiries. Nevertheless, he added that the Federal Government would be open and responsible with regard to the other National Social Investment Programmes and the ongoing N-Power.
He stated that in order to carry out checks on compliance on a national level, the Ministry worked in conjunction with other departments, agencies, and ministries of government as well as with civil society organizations.
The recipients were urged to work hard at their Primary Duty Stations, and he reassured them that they would still get their regular government checks.
Sani-Gwarzo nevertheless exhorted Nigerians to report any instances of programme irregularities.
