The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's Gombe State Command has seized 338kg of psychotropic substances.
In a news conference held on Thursday in Gombe, Ekaete Egwunwoke, the NDLEA commander for the state of Gombe, revealed this.
Henry Ihebuzor, the command's spokesperson, spoke on behalf of Egwunwoke, who said that the drugs were seized in a truck travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Gombe via the Gombe bypass.
She stated that 178 kg of Diazepam pills, 106 kg of Tramadol capsules, and 529 kg of Exol were among the medicines collected.
Umar Bakura, the truck driver, was detained, she added, and an investigation is currently taking place before the culprit is brought before a judge.
The Commander issued a warning to those responsible for such crimes to stop using, dealing, selling, and peddling hard narcotics in the state, particularly during the holiday season and the forthcoming general elections in 2023.
Egwunwoke claims that the command has put the requisite plans in place to get rid of illegal substances from the state.
She also urged all relevant parties to work with NDLEA to combat any drug-related activities in the state.
The truck driver claimed to news reporters that he was unaware that the items he was transporting were psychoactive substances.
