Women employees of the IT company Klasha in Nigeria are permitted to take time off for their periods under a new policy that has been put in place.
According to reports, they are the first technology company in Nigeria to implement such a policy.
Although Klasha has stated that employees will initially receive five paid vacation days annually, this amount is liable to change pending the programme evaluation results.
According to CEO Jess Anuna, "At Klasha, we recognise that we must accommodate women's biological demands as part of normal business." We want to create a culture of trust, candour, and acceptance rather than treating the topic as an unspoken taboo.
The business's website bragged that 60% of its employees were female.
Some people have praised the project on social media, while others have questioned its viability.
In Africa, only Zambia offers a monthly day off for menstruation. Temporary work schedule modifications are also permitted in Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea.
Researchers found in 2019 that women who experience period pain lose about nine work days yearly.
Customers of the 2018-founded e-commerce site Klasha come from six countries in Africa. You can now go to one of their Lagos or San Francisco offices.
