Nyesom Wike fulfils $20,000 pledge to players, officials of Rivers United

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has complied with his commitment to award $20,000 to each player and staff member of the first champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League, Rivers United.

You might recall that Wike made that commitment when his side won the NPFL championship in 2022–2033.

The team led by Coach Stanley Eguma had an exceptional season, dropping just four games on the way to a title.

Governor Nyesom Wike has fulfilled his $20,000 promise to each player and official of Rivers United for becoming champions of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League, according to a statement posted on the team's official Twitter account.

A preseason friendly between Rivers United and another club finished in a scoreless tie on Friday night at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup will both be venues for Rivers United's 2018 season competition.
