Members of the Tricycle (Keke) Owners Association of Nigeria, Ojota Branch assaulted officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority with deadly weapons while they were doing official responsibilities at Ojota.
The LASTMA agents were also robbed during the mass assault, which took place on December 19, 2022.
One of the LASTMA Officers was gravely hurt during the attack, which included cutlasses, iron, broken bottles, and local charms. As a result, the LASTMA Officers were forced to leave their places of duty.
According to a statement made by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA's Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the Officer, Oguntimehin Ajibola, was hit in the left eye by shattered bottles used by the attackers, and is currently being treated at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Taofiq claims that a preliminary investigation found that about 20 members of the Tricycle (Keke) Owners Association, Ojota Branch, attacked the officers after learning that their newly elected Chairman, Henro, was detained for illegal diversion by LASTMA Officials at Ojota in a Toyota Camry with the registration number FKJ 161 HB.
He said that Bolaji Oreagba, the agency's general manager, had acknowledged that the unjustified attack had been reported to the Nigerian Police's Area 'H' Command in Ogudu and that attempts were being made to track down and apprehend everyone involved.
Oreagba said: “We are searching for the attackers with information gathered so far by our intelligence unit.
“We will ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
