Police in Gombe have arrested an 18-year-old man for raping a six-year-old girl.

Oqua Etim, the state's Commissioner of Police, stated on Friday in Gombe that the alleged rapist was apprehended after the victim's father filed a complaint.

"On November 30, we received a formal complaint from one Mohammed Mustapha alleging that the alleged rapist took his six-year-old daughter to his room and had carnal knowledge of her."

"The police arrested the alleged rapist, who confessed to the crime and would be arraigned soon," he said.

Mr Etim also paraded 19 thugs known as "Kalare" boys, who terrorized Gombe residents with dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlasses, daggers, and sticks.

“All suspects arrested in this regard will be profiled and those found wanting will be charged in court.

“One stick, one knife, one sharp iron, five cutlasses, one catapult and one torch were recovered from the suspects as exhibits,’’ he said.

Mr Etim urged residents of the State to continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, while assuring that the command would sustain its surveillance and operations to nip crimes in the bud.
